Three Shade Tree employees were stung while trimming trees just before 11 a.m. at Howland Avenue and Village Circle on Thursday, July 25, Paramus Police Chief Robert Guidetti said.
One employee suffered multiple stings and serious injuries and was taken to The Valley Hospital, the chief said.
Special Police Officer Al Raimondi was on duty for the Paramus tree trimming detail when he noticed the "sudden" bee attack on the workers, according to Guidetti.
Acting quickly, Officer Raimondi shouted, "Cover your face and run towards me!"
Raimondi took charge of the situation, guiding the workers to safety. The special officer instructed the workers to jump into the police car and swiftly drove them away from the bees, Guidetti said.
A bee keeper was dispatched to the scene and said that if the bees are left alone, they will return to the nest in the trunk of the tree, Guidetti said.
The scene was cleared as of 12:35 p.m.
